The Present Simple Tense

·  Main Usage: habitual actions, general truths and descriptions.

·  Formation  : the infinitive form of the verb – an (s) is added with the third person singular.

   Words used with the tense: every – sometimes – often – always – never – usually.

Examples

* Correct the verbs between brackets:

1-On Thursday we (go) to the cinema.

 *On Thursday we go to the cinema.

2-Idle people (lose) a lot of pleasure in life.

 *Idle people lose a lot of pleasure in life.

3-You (not know) the correct answer.

 *You don’t know the correct  answer.

4-He (have) breakfast at seven o’clock everyday.

 *He has breakfast at seven o’clock everyday.

5-She (hate) playing cards.

 *She hates playing cards.

6-The postman usually (bring) the letters twice a day.

 *The postman usually brings the letters twice a day.

7-She often (go) to work by bus and (come) home on foot.

 *She often goes to work by bus and comes home on foot.

8-They always (meet) him at the club every Friday.

 *They always meet him at the club every Friday.

9-She (teach) English well ? No, she (not do).

 *Does she teach English well ? No, she doesn’t.

10-The baby always (cry) when it (be) hungry.

   *The baby always cries when it is hungry.

11-He usually (play) football every Sunday.

   *He usually plays football every Sunday.

12-Ahmed (study) English and Arabic at the university.

   *Ahmed studies English and Arabic at the university.
