The Past Simple Tense

  * Formation :      the second conjugation form of the verb.

* Main usage  :  - actions happened and finished in the past.

                           - past habits with ( used to ).

                           - after ( wish - suppose ) to express unreal wish or supposition.

  *Words used with the tense : last - yesterday - ago - once - etc.

Examples

* Put in the correct tense of the given verbs:

1- Everybody ( laugh ) at him when he ( sing ) yesterday.

* Everybody laughed when he sang yesterday.

2- When you last ( see ) her ?

* When did you last see her ?

3- He ( buy ) these lovely ties last year.

* He bought these lovely ties last year.

4- She ( arrive ) a month ago.

* She arrived a month ago.

5- He ( be ) very ill last week. He ( have ) a heart attack.

* He was very ill last week. He had a heart attack.

  6- Yesterday morning, he ( say ) he ( will like ) to see me in the evening. I ( tell ) him I ( won't 

       be ) home.

* Yesterday morning, he said he would like to see me in the evening. I told him I wouldn't be at home.

7- In the past, people ( use to ) travel on horseback.

* In the past, people used to travel on horseback.

* I wish I had your skill.
